Oasis Forge respects your privacy. This policy explains what data the “Wasfati” app handles and how it is used. By using the app, you agree to the following.
We do not collect any personal data ourselves. The app requires no sign-in and no account. Your recipes, photos, cookbooks, tags, notes and settings are stored only in the app's private storage on your device, and they are erased when the app is removed or its data is cleared.
Most of what the app does never leaves your device — including every link you import, which your phone reads directly from the website itself (section 2). There are two exceptions. AI import (section 3): when your phone can't read a page on its own, we send only what you asked it to import to our import server, which never keeps it. And ads (section 8): the free app shows ads from Google, whose ad software collects some information about your device to show them. Nothing you keep in Wasfati is ever given to it.
The app also keeps a random install ID on your device. It identifies no one — no name, email or account stands behind it. It leaves the device only inside a backup file you choose to save or share (section 7), or with an AI import request (section 3).
Android backup: if backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include your recipes and settings — not their photos — in your device backup, which Google stores and which you control from your device settings. We cannot access that backup.
When you paste or share a recipe link, your phone downloads that page and its photo directly from the recipe's website, exactly as a browser would. That website sees the request and your device's IP address, as it would for any visitor. Nothing reaches us, and no server of ours is involved. Text you share into Wasfati stays on your device. If the page doesn't hold the recipe data the app needs, your phone reads the page's own text instead, shows it to you, and offers to import it with AI (section 3); the page's link itself never reaches our import server.
A social post — on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or YouTube — works much the same way: your phone reads that post's public caption and cover picture directly from the platform itself (TikTok through its own public oEmbed service), logged out, and shows you the caption before anything is sent. The platform sees the request and your device's IP address, as it would if you'd opened the post yourself. For a TikTok post, your phone also reads, the same way and from TikTok itself, the video's automatic transcript that TikTok publishes for the post, and adds it under the caption with a note, for you to check, edit or delete. The caption and that transcript are shown to you and go to AI import only if you tap Import (section 3); the link itself never reaches our import server.
For a video post on YouTube or Facebook, your phone also finds the post's public video link on the same page and, unless you switch it off, sends it with the caption when you tap Import. Our server passes that link to Gemini, Google's AI model, which fetches the video from the platform to hear what's said in it, and returns the steps and the words it heard; those words are kept in the recipe's notes on your phone. Neither your phone nor our server downloads or keeps the video, and our server keeps neither the link nor the words.
Some sources need help understanding — a social post whose caption your phone couldn't read on its own (an Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or YouTube post, say), a web page that holds no recipe data, a caption you paste in, or photos you take or pick: a cookbook page, a handwritten recipe, or a screenshot of a post. When you ask the app to import one of these, it sends what you're actually importing — the text, or up to 4 photos, each first made smaller on your phone — together with the app's install ID (section 1), to our import server. For a social post, that's the caption your phone read (section 2) or you pasted, or a screenshot you pick; the post's link itself isn't sent. For a TikTok post, that can also include the video's automatic transcript that TikTok publishes for the post, which your phone reads from TikTok and adds under the caption for you to check and edit before you tap Import. For a web page with no recipe data, it's the page's readable text, which your phone reads from the page it already downloaded (section 2) and shows you first, to check and edit, before you tap Import; the page's link itself isn't sent either.
Our server sends that to Gemini, Google's AI model, which turns it into a recipe, and sends the structured result back to your phone. The server keeps nothing it is sent: no recipe text, no caption, no photo, no log of what you imported. Photos are held only in memory while the request is answered, then discarded. Google, our service provider, keeps what it receives for up to 55 days to detect abuse, and doesn't use it to improve its products (section 10).
The recipe that comes back opens for you to review and edit before anything is saved. Once it's on your device, it stays there like any other recipe (section 1) — it leaves again only if you back it up, share it, or ask to translate it.
Translating a recipe into Arabic or English works the same way: it sends only that recipe's words — its title, ingredient names and steps, never its amounts or its photo — to the same server, which keeps nothing of it either, and on to Gemini, which keeps it for the same 55 days at most. The translation is saved as a new recipe beside the original, on your phone.
To hold each install to the free 10 AI imports and 10 translations a month, the server keeps, under the install ID, a count of this month's imports and one of this month's translations: two numbers, never anything you sent. Each count deletes itself about 40 days later, and the app shows it to you.
If you're a Premium subscriber, each AI import also carries that subscription's Google Play purchase token — never a translation, which stays on the free 10 either way (section 9) — so our server can ask Google Play whether it's still active, and raise that import to Premium's 100 a month. The server keeps only a one-way hash of that token, together with Google Play's answer, for up to an hour, and the month's import count under that hash for up to 40 days; it never keeps the token itself.
With each AI import or translation, the app also asks Google Play for an integrity token, so our server can check the request comes from the real Wasfati app on a real phone. To make the token, Google Play checks the app and the device, sending Google the app's details, its Play licence status and the device's own attestation, as it does for any app that uses Google's Play Integrity. Our server receives only the token and Google's answer for that one request, and keeps nothing from them except a daily count of how many requests passed or failed the check.
“Report a mistake”, in that review screen, opens your own mail app with a message to oasisforge.support@gmail.com holding only the recipe's source link and the note you write. A photo or text you import on its own has no link, so the message holds only your note; when a post's link can't be read and you paste its caption or pick a screenshot of it instead, the recipe keeps that post's link, and the message carries it. You see the message and send it yourself; it never goes through our server, and it never includes the recipe or its photos.
Photos you add come from your camera or gallery through your phone's own picker, so the app never browses your photo library, and it needs no camera permission. They are kept in the app's private storage and leave your device only if you send them somewhere yourself, such as a photo you import with AI (section 3).
Timers in cook mode are scheduled on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere. Notification permission is asked the first time you start a timer. If you refuse, timers still ring while the app is open.
A backup is a file the app makes only when you ask. It holds your recipes and their photos, cookbooks, tags, your meal plan, your grocery list, your settings and the app's random install ID. A recipe you deleted crosses only as a deletion, never its content or photo. You choose where the file goes — Google Drive, your files, or any app through the share sheet — and it never passes through us. Before a restore changes anything, the app keeps an automatic copy of what was on your phone, on your phone. An export is a plain text file of your recipes, saved the same way.
Wasfati is free, and it shows ads from Google AdMob: one small banner at the bottom of four screens — the library, a recipe's page, the meal plan and the grocery list — and one full-screen ad after an import is saved, as the saved recipe opens, at most once a minute. Never in cook mode, the recipe editor, import, settings or the purchase screen, and not before you've finished setting up the app. Pro or Premium (section 9) removes every ad, and the app then doesn't ask Google for ads at all.
What the app gives Google: nothing of yours. It never passes on your recipes, cookbooks, meal plan, grocery list, searches or anything you type, and no keywords made from them. A request for an ad carries nothing from the app but the request itself.
What Google's ad software collects on its own, to show ads, measure them and prevent fraud: your device's advertising ID; your IP address and the rough location it suggests (a city or region, never GPS); details of the device (model, Android version, language, screen size, network type); which ads were shown and whether you tapped one; and crash and performance data about the ad software itself. It's sent to Google encrypted, and Google handles it under its own privacy policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Your choices. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's own consent form asks you before the first ad, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings → Ads and subscription → Ad privacy choices. Refusing means ads that aren't personalised — Google still uses some data to limit how often an ad repeats, prevent fraud and count views — and never a feature taken away. Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off personalised ads, in your phone's settings (Privacy → Ads, or Google → Ads).
To know whether your country's law asks for that form, the app asks Google's consent service when ads are about to start, and that service sees your IP address. Your answer is kept on your phone, and the ad software sends it with each ad request so Google follows it.
Pro (a one-time purchase that removes ads) and Premium (a subscription that removes ads and gives you 100 AI imports a month) are bought through Google Play. Google Play takes the payment: we never see your card, your name or your email. Each time the app starts, it asks Google Play which of them your Google account owns, so a refund, a subscription that ended or a purchase shared with your family shows up by itself; it keeps nothing else about your purchases. Premium renews until you cancel it in Google Play (Settings → Ads and subscription → Manage or cancel). Google Play handles payments under Google's own privacy policy.
Premium's yearly plan can start with a free trial, when Google Play offers you one. Two days before the trial ends, the app shows a notification with the date and the price, so you can cancel before you're charged. The reminder is scheduled on your device and nothing is sent anywhere; if you cancel the trial, the app removes it.
The app has no analytics or tracking of its own.
Delete a recipe in the app: it stays in the trash for 30 days, then it and its photo are removed for good from the app's own storage. From the moment you delete it, any backup you make afterward carries only the fact that it was deleted, never its content or photo. A backup you saved before deleting it was made while the recipe was still there, though, and keeps holding it until you remove that saved file yourself. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.
What you send for an AI import or a translation (section 3) is never kept on our server. Google, our service provider, keeps it for up to 55 days to detect abuse, and doesn't use it to improve its products. The two monthly counts kept under your install ID delete themselves about 40 days later.
The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from them.
We may update this policy as the app gains features. Any change appears on this page with an updated effective date.
